With the Fourth of July right around the corner, we’ll see American flags flying all over the state, but there’s one flag here in Utah that’s unique. It’s the largest free-flying flag in the entire country, and you’ll be able to see it soon!
Plan on waking up early on the Fourth of July, and head to Grove Creek Canyon in Pleasant Grove for the unfurling of Big Betsy. It's a sight unlike any other, and a holiday tradition for many Utahns.
Address: Grove Creek Drive, Pleasant Grove, UT, 84062
The "By the Dawn's Early Light" ceremony starts at 7 a.m. with cannon fire, music, and the unfurling of Big Betsy. There's nothing like this flag anywhere else in the country.
Big Betsy measures 150 feet by 78 feet for a total of 11,800 square feet of American glory! Other flags might be as large, but none fly freely over a 600-foot canyon like this one.
The flag flies overhead from July 4th through the July 8th. You'll definitely want to visit during the holiday weekend. Bring your camera to capture photos of this unique flag in its stunning location.
Don't worry - you'll see her again soon! Big Betsy makes other appearances throughout the year. On July 24th she'll take part in the Days of 47 Parade in Salt Lake City, then make an appearance at the Orem Owlz game at 7 p.m.
