Here in Utah, we love our small towns. All over the state, we have small towns that are perfect for exploring, relaxing, and playing. While there are dozens of charming small towns in Utah we could recommend for a delightful getaway location, check out this list of just 12 — one for every month of the year.
1. January: Midway
Each year, Midway becomes a winter wonderland and is one of the best small towns to spend Utah's chilly days. Here, you can visit the
Midway Ice Castles , go for a sleigh ride at Deer Creek, or even explore Wasatch Mountain State Park on snowshoes, snowmobiles, cross-country skis, fat bikes, and more.
2. February: Parowan
Parowan is the perfect small town to relax. Considered the Mother Town of Southern Utah, this charming southern Utah destination is a must-visit. Drive around and view the many historic buildings in the community, plan a visit to Parowan Gap, and take the
Sweet Tour to discover some of the best cinnamon rolls in Utah. Of course, you can also drive just a short distance to Brian Head Ski Resort for a day of skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing.
3. March: Springdale
Spring is one of the best times of the year to visit the small town of
Springdale . Located just outside of Zion National Park, this small town features incredible views, excellent lodging, and delicious restaurants. Plus, by visiting in the spring, you can avoid many crowds and the hot weather.
4. April: Wellsville

Wellsville is one location in Cache Valley that tends to be overlooked, but we think it is
secretly one of the best places in Utah . This town is nested at the base of the Wellsville Mountains, one of the steepest in all of the Rocky Mountains. Wellsville is also a town that is rich in history and features numerous attractions like the American West Heritage Center and Wellsville Reservoir.
5. May: Escalante
Escalante is a nature lover’s dream. This small town in southern Utah is home to all types of incredible hikes, a national monument, petrified forest, and so much more. When you visit, make sure you hike to Calf Creek Falls, one of the best waterfalls in Utah – you won’t regret it.
6. June: Panguitch
Panguitch is considered one of the
best small town getaways in Utah . This charming small town has it all — a beautiful Main Street, delicious places to eat, cozy accommodations, and a long list of outdoor activities. June is one of the best times to visit as this town hosts festivals such as the Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally and the Quilt Walk, a celebration of this town’s pioneer history.
7. July: Huntsville

Huntsville is a small town with less than 1,000 residents and it’s full of natural beauty. This historic town is quaint and charming and is an
outdoor lover’s paradise — perfect for the summer months. Just make sure to spend a day at Pineview Reservoir for fishing, boating, swimming, and camping opportunities.
8. August: Garden City

During the first week of August, there is one place where you will find us —
Garden City . This is the time of year for the world-famous Bear Lake Raspberry Days and there is plenty of fun to be had and delicious berries to be eaten. But, if you chose to visit during the rest of the month, there is still plenty to do including boating, swimming, and relaxing on the beautiful Bear Lake.
9. September: Brigham City
Located in northern Utah, you will find Brigham City. This historic town sits on the western slope of the Wellsville Mountains and near the
Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge . During your getaway to Brigham City, make sure to explore the charming downtown area filled with local shops. We highly suggest visiting during the first weekend in September for the annual Peach Days Festival, which began in 1904 as a celebration of the peach harvest and as a day off from the hard work it brings.
10. October: Heber City
There are so many beautiful places to capture fall foliage in Utah, but one of our favorite small towns to visit during this time of year is
Heber City . Enjoy the fall foliage as you ride on the Heber Valley Railroad or take a drive through one of the many nearby canyons. You may even just want to walk down Main Street or visit a pumpkin patch or corn maze in town.
11. November: Moab
While Moab is a popular place to visit all year long, the late fall is one of our favorites. During this time of year, you don’t have large crowds to fight and the weather is much more mild. Plus, there is so much to do during this time of year such as visiting one of the national parks in the area, exploring downtown, eating at one of the delicious local restaurants, and even taking a
stunning scenic drive .
12. December: Helper
Did you know that Helper transforms into the
most magical Christmas town each December? It is definitely a small town that deserves a spot on your bucket list. During the holidays, Main Street comes alive with twinkling lights and there are activities every weekend to get you into the holiday spirit. And, if you want to find a little peace and quiet, you can always make the short drive to Scofield State Park for a day of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing.
