Few people realize that the U.S. is home to the tallest mountain in the entire world. If you thought this title belonged to Everest, then you’re not crazy. The Himalayan giant is the tallest mountain above sea level. But if we’re talking sheer height, there’s a mountain and Hawaii that exceeds even Everest. Take a look at the following photos of Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain in the whole world:
The dormant volcano known as Mouna Kea is situated on the island of Hawaii. Looming 13,802 ft above sea level, this peak is the highest point in Hawaii.
This diagram, courtesy of Wikicommons, offers a comparative look of the world's tallest peaks, taking into account the portion of Mauna Kea that resides underwater.
So should you find yourself in the presence of this giant, you can now observe it with a greater appreciation. There really is more than meets the eye.
