Hiking is one of America’s most beloved past times. And while many trails are famous for their iconic beauty, some trails are more notorious for a rather chilling history. That’s certainly the case with Washington’s Iron Goat Trail. Meandering through the Cascade Mountains, this trek passes through the site of one of the most deadly train accidents in US history. Here’s more on this beautiful yet bone-chilling hike:
There's no denying the natural allure of the Iron Goat Trail that meanders through the Cascade Mountains of Washington state. Yet this trail is equally renowned for its chilling history and paranormal activity.
The trail marks the site of the 1910 railroad accident. An avalanche knocked two trains full of passengers off the tracks as they were snowed in at the Wellington depot. As a result, nearly 100 people were killed.
New tunnels and tracks were installed yet the original ones can still be explored by trail. Hiking at night and entering the old tunnels is strictly forbidden, as the conditions are unstable and dangerous. Another reason to avoid the trail at night is the ghostly encounters.
Whether or not this trail is actively haunted, there’s no denying the chilling history of this corner of Washington. Have you experienced Iron Goat Trail before? Did you experience anything paranormal? Share your stories in the comments below!
