There are plenty of places around the country that may make you feel like you’ve managed to get away from it all, but there are only a few places that will actually seclude you away from the majority of humanity. One of the best states to venture away from life’s everyday chaos, Alaska is filled with quaint towns that truly feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Car-free and full of natural wonder, find out why you’ll want to explore this one area of Alaska more than any other in America.
Inside Kachemak Bay State Park, the teensy town of Halibut Cove is unlike any other in our country.
Only accessible to the nearest town by air or water, Halibut Cove is surrounded by Kachemak Bay's breathtaking glaciers, mountains, forests, and heart-stopping waterfront views.
The majority of the town sits on stilts or floats within Kachemak Bay. The local post office is one of the only floating post offices in the entire country.
Halibut Cove also makes for an amazing wildlife watching destination, with everything from bears and sea otters to whales and harbor seals just a head-turn away. There's no shortage of wildlife tours in this town.
