Here’s more on this gorgeous lighthouse that might just be one of the most haunted locations in America.
The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is famous for being the tallest brick lighthouse in all of North America. Rising over 200 feet above sea level, the massive structure required over one million bricks to build.
The tower has an extensive history which began in 1870. It has undergone several reinforcements and even been moved a time or two. Yet today, visitors can still climb the 257 steps to the top.
The vision of the friendly Cape Hatteras lighthouse has become synonymous with the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. Yet there are quite a few legends surrounding this tower that suggest its history to be a haunted one.
Those who have sailed by the lighthouse at night report spotting the ghost of Theodore Burr, who was shipwrecked near the lighthouse, walking along the beach.
Another chilling tale is that of the Carroll A. Deering ship. Famously known as the Ghost Ship, it washed ashore in 1921 completely void of passengers or equipment.
