America is filled with charming small towns that absolutely light up with Christmas cheer. However, this little town in Missouri is known for going above and beyond the usual light displays and holiday strolls.
Here’s why Branson, Missouri should be at the top of your Christmas bucket list this season:
Branson is a little town that didn’t get much attention during the holidays until the late 1980s. It was then that the Silver Dollar City theme park started hosting a Christmas festival, and Branson began to transform into a holiday haven.
The Christmas festival in the Branson theme park was the first of its kind in the country. The town has fully embraced the festive spirit and puts up 1,000 decorated Christmas trees to play into the holiday vibe. Visitors also love to check out the theme park’s 50-foot Christmas tree and the Holly Holly Light Parade, which features illuminated floats and lovely carols.
So how much glitter can you expect in Branson? Though the park started out with just 6,500 lights in 1988, it now showcases one of the nation’s largest light displays, with a whopping 6.5 million lights. In the theme park’s Midtown district, many of the buildings have been given faux second stories just to increase the potential for dazzling decor. It’s no wonder that the town is home to a Christmas Coalition that markets the community as "America’s Christmas Tree City."
