A Volcanic Eruption Created A New Black Sand Beach In America And You'll Want To Visit
The May 2018 eruption of the Kilauea Volcano on the island of Hawaii was a devastating event that caused millions of dollars of damage to buildings and industry on the island.
However, there is one bright spot to the disaster – CNN has reported that the eruption has actually caused a new black sand beach to form.

Black sand beaches are typically created by volcanic activity, and this new stretch of sand at Isaac Kepoʻokalani Hale Beach Park is no exception. The beach was formed by lava flows that were produced by Kilauea. When the hot lava came into contact with the cold ocean water, explosions were created that crumbled the lava rock into sand.

Tourists are already being permitted to check out the new beach. However, strong currents mean that swimming at the beach is highly discouraged. There is a lifeguard on duty, but officials are saying that visitors shouldn’t take any chances.

"We hope our community and visitors can make new memories with loved ones at this special place, and always remember the island of Hawaii’s unique ability to be ever-evolving," a representative for the Hawaii Visitors Bureau said in an interview with CNN.
