One of the most beautiful places in our country, Alaska's Mendenhall Ice Caves isn't the easiest destination to get to. While the hike is one that is considered to be moderate, the terrain is constantly changing with the actual glacier retreating and parts of the ice caves melting. Those who are interested in taking an out-of-this-world adventure right here in the states should head to the glacier as soon as possible before the beauty that's to be seen is gone!
Visiting Cape Perpetua is like discovering a treasure box and then opening said box only to find even more treasure tucked away inside. Head out to this area along Oregon's coast and you'll not only find the Cape Perpetua overlook area and hiking trails, but also not too far away are natural wonders like the Devil's Churn and Thor's Well.
If you've already had the actual pleasure of visiting Iceland, then you may know of a spot that goes by the name of Seljalandsfoss - a 200-foot tall waterfall. Well believe it not, there's a waterfall within the Catskills Mountains that offers quite a similar view from halfway up. The two-tier waterfall stands in total at roughly 260 feet, with a stone staircase that will lead you to the middle tier and eventually up to the very top. A spot that can be dangerous if you wander off the designated trails, this place is a true adventurer's paradise.
Another destination that's a gem within a gem, Montana's Glacier National Park has over 700 miles of hiking trails for you to explore. Here you can find vibrant lakes, picturesque mountains and scenic beauty that seems like something you'd discover on another planet. The views that you get to soak in while you're visiting this park will remind you of Iceland's mountainous scenery.
Those who have already visited Iceland may be reminded of the country's waterfall Kirkjufellsfoss when they come and pay a visit to Palouse Falls State Park. Out near Franklin and Whitman Counties, the state park's main attraction is its 200-foot tall waterfall that sits along the Palouse River. It's a historic and gorgeous state park that covers just over 100 acres, and you'll find the perfect overlook area here that gives you a magnificent view of the falls and winding river.
Considered to be one of America's most pristine lakes, the unique scenery that's hidden away all around Hanging Lake is otherworldly. The lake's gorgeous turquoise water will leave you speechless and while you can certainly soak in the scenery, visitors are not allowed to touch or go in the water. A rule that's enforced to make sure the lake's ecosystem stays protected, anyone who visits this natural wonder of Colorado is asked to clean up after themselves and to be respectful of Mother Nature.
