Texas boasts an incredibly rich past, and of all our major cities, San Antonio just might have the most fascinating story to tell. From its integral role in the battle for our state’s independence to the vibrant Hispanic culture that permeates the town, San Antonio is worth celebrating – and you can do just that next month. Taking place from September 8-12, the 6th Annual World Heritage Festival is five days of food, family fun, and festivity, all in celebration of this incredible city and its far-reaching impact.
Held annually to celebrate and promote the San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the World Heritage Festival is a family-friendly event with activities for all ages to enjoy.
You'll get to meet the directors, participate in hands-on arts and crafts, and enjoy delicious food and beverages. This event is free and open to the public, taking place at the Mission Marquee Plaza on Roosevelt Avenue.

This mini "film festival" of sorts will also take place the following night before the itinerary switches gears on Friday.
At 6 p.m. that evening, the City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation is set to present the ever-popular "Restored by Light" for another consecutive year. With food, music, entertainment, and the restoration of the façade of Mission San Jose to its original frescoed appearance using projection technology, it's always an unforgettable experience.
Saturday, September 11, is the Tour de las Misiones, in which participants can run, bike, or walk alongside the iconic San Antonio Riverwalk or on the southside of the city near the Alamo.
From 7 a.m. until 12 p.m., a knowledgeable tour guide will accompany each group, sharing fascinating information about the history of the area. All three events will begin and end at Mission Park Pavilion #1, and participants receive a commemorative race bib, passport, and T-shirt upon completion. The cost varies based on whether you'll be walking, biking, or running, so visit the festival's website to learn more.
From 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday night, guests can enjoy music and movies under the stars at the Mission Marquee Plaza.
The service is entitled "Caring for Creation," and details will be announced soon.
So whether you're a history buff, were born and raised in San Antonio, or just love visiting and learning about new places, this is the festival for you.
There is no cost for admission into the World Heritage Festival. Visit the official website or Facebook page to learn more.
