In Texas, it seems there’s no shortage of bizarre incidents in the news that leave us with more questions than answers. I have gathered some of the strangest events to ever occur in the Lone Star State, so brace yourselves; it’s gonna be one weird, wild ride.
1) A woman finds cocaine inside a wrapped granola bar.
Cynthia Rodriguez from San Antonio was opening her granola bar and saw a small packet with dollar signs on the outside. She called General Mills thinking she won a prize, but they told her to call the police instead. On March 18, the woman called police and they determined it was indeed a bag of cocaine. Officials still have no idea how the cocaine got inside the granola bar, and a General Mills spokesman said he was certain that the cocaine wasn't inserted into the package with the granola bar at the manufacturing facility. A strange mystery indeed...
2) A man in Austin stole sausages from a business, then fell asleep in the back office.
A surveillance video from Hudson Meats in Austin showed a man named Ricardo Cardona trying to break down the front door of the meat processing plant for about 20 minutes. The man was shown taking sausages from the business, going outside, and then returning to grab a coat and falling asleep in the back office. When police found him, the man said he had been out drinking, and he was charged with criminal trespassing.
3) A runaway teen lived undetected for two days at a Wal Mart in Corsicana.
The teenage boy ran away from his aunt's home in Corsicana on July 28, 2014, and spent two nights at a 24-hour Wal Mart in town. A store employee found the boy stepping out from behind some boxes on the baby apparel aisle, and found opened food and drinks indicating that the boy had been staying there awhile. He ran from the store when the employee spotted him, but police caught him outside the store. No charges were pressed against the boy.
4) A man in Midland woke up one February day in 2013 to find the entire left side of his home covered in tumbleweeds.
He believed they rolled in because he had recently torn down a fence in his front yard. Since they were a fire hazard and were on his property, firefighters said the homeowner had the responsibility of removing them. What a fun job that would be...
5) An SUV crashed and flipped over onto the roof of a home in Houston.
A 24-year old driver of an SUV missed a curve in the road late one morning in February of 2013, and because he was speeding, it caused his car to flip over and become airborne. The SUV went through a wood fence and landed on top of one house, then flipped over onto the roof of the house next door. The driver was fine, but the residents of the homes were certainly startled out of their sleep.
6) A pink UFO is spotted in Google Maps when a woman tried to get directions to Jacksonville, Texas.
When a woman from Houston tried to get directions from where she lived to Jacksonville to visit a relative, she spotted what she believed could be a UFO in the sky. She contacted news stations to report the anomaly, but a photo-video analyst said it was a simple lens flare. A similar orange-pink formation was spotted 1,000 miles away in Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico. Some people still believe both are flying saucers, despite any analyst's claims.
7) A naked unicyclist was arrested in Kemah for distracting drivers.
Everyone wants to feel free, and one day, a man in Kemah decided he wanted to do something a bit more daring and liberating, and started off on his unicycle without any clothes. He didn't get very far, though, and police charged him with misdemeanor indecent exposure.
8) A 16 pound baby was born in Longview, making him the heaviest baby born in Texas history.
JaMichael Brown was born July 11, 2011 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, but this wasn't just your average, every day birth. He weighed a whopping 16 pounds, and his parents said they would have to return most of the clothing they bought for him, as most of it was too small. Even his diapers wouldn't fit. Needless to say, his parents were in for a big surprise when their baby was born!
9) A self-proclaimed vampire broke into a woman's home and bit her, claiming he needed to feed.
19 year old Lyle Monroe Bensley broke into a woman's apartment in Galveston through her bedroom window, wearing only boxer shorts. He started making growling and hissing sounds and biting the woman. He tried to force her to leave the apartment, but she broke free and jumped in a neighbor's car to protect herself. The police found the suspect in the apartment parking lot, where he was still making growling noises. Bensley said he had been alive over 500 years and 'needed to feed.' The teenager actually wanted police to restrain him so he wouldn't attack them.
10) In San Antonio, a man threatened to shoot two Walmart employees if they didn't allow him to take a kiddie pool and inflatable boat from the store.
On July 3, 2011, a gunman ordered two employees at Walmart to open the back door where he was making his escape with a kiddie pool and blow-up boat. He threatened to 'bust a cap' in them if they called the cops.
