Crazy food trends are always sweeping the nation, and we just might have stumbled upon the next one: Bubble Waffles. This oddly-shaped rendition of one of our favorite breakfast foods got its start in China, but it’s taking the Lone Star State by storm. Bubble Waffle Bar in San Antonio offers waffle cones and tacos (stuffed with ice cream and toppings, of course), waffle sandwiches, and virtually any other concoction you can think of. See the unique treats for yourself:
I know you're thinking "That doesn't look like a waffle!" but it most certainly is. Known as "bubble waffles" (hence the name of the restaurant), these fun treats are a popular Chinese street food now available to everyone in the San Antonio area.
The waffles might look a little wonky, but rest assured they taste just like the popular breakfast item. You can get yours as a taco, complete with three scoops of ice cream and all the toppings your heart desires...
...or even go the savory route with some chicken and waffles for brunch! Other savory options include waffle sandwiches, hash-brown waffles, and waffle pizzas.
Ice cream flavors range from classics like chocolate and vanilla all the way to unique delicacies such as purple yam (ube) and matcha (green tea). The fluffiness of the waffle combined with the richness of the ice cream makes for a decadent treat your tastebuds won't soon forget.
Don't worry, they also do normal waffles if the Hong Kong Waffle texture weirds you out too much. This one is topped off with banana, chocolate sauce, and a light dusting of powdered sugar...mmm, our stomachs are grumbling just thinking about it.
Bubble Waffle Bar is located at 7755 Eckhert Rd, San Antonio, TX 78240. In addition to waffles, they also serve bubble tea and decadent gourmet milkshakes.
