As the saying goes, "Fry it, put it on a stick, and us Texans will eat it up." Okay, I might have just made that up, but it really is true for the most part. Plus, rattlesnake tastes just like chicken!

If someone ever cooks you chili with beans in it, you can rest assured they're not from Texas. We invented the stuff, so we know how to make it. It's pretty simple - just some meat, spices, tomato sauce, and maybe some onions and garlic and you're good to go.

Would you believe this popular concession stand snack originated here in Texas? If you ever make it yourself, try using brisket instead of ground beef. It's a life-altering substitution, I promise. Bonus points if you serve it in an actual Frito package.

Gator is a bit more common than rattlesnake, but they're similar in that they both taste exactly like chicken. In fact, you probably couldn't tell the difference if you didn't know any better. Go to any seafood restaurant in the state (except some of the fancier places), and I guarantee you'll see gator on the menu.

Legend has it that the chimichanga was born after a waitress accidentally dropped a burrito in the deep fryer while hurriedly trying to get the meal to a hungry customer. When the patron agreed to eat it anyway and ended up loving it, the restaurant added it to the menu and the rest is history. There really isn't much that doesn't taste better after being fried - leave it to us Texans to test that theory to its fullest extent.

Some of us even make this stuff ourselves after a successful hunting trip - I think we can all agree it tastes better knowing it came from your own kill. Whether it's in gumbo, barbecued, or just eaten by itself, deer sausage will never go out of style in the Lone Star State.

Okay, this might not be a dinner food, but I'd be lying if I said I've never eaten a breakfast taco past 4 pm before. What can I say? When a craving hits, you just have to listen. I don't know who decided putting eggs on a taco would be a good idea, but whoever it was, I love them dearly.
