During the days when liquor wasn't legal everywhere in the United States, New Mexico found itself a wet state, while Texas was dry. This made things quite a bit awkward when New Mexico's side of Glenrio built their own motel and bar, while Texas residents weren't allowed to drink.
Most of the buildings you'll see left standing today were built throughout the years when Glenrio was a railroad town and tourist attraction along Old Route 66. Catarina, Texas was once colorful and populated until the Great Depression hit and the wells ran dry. Today, only the crumbling buildings remain, being overtaken by nature.
