This hike out at Enchanted Rock is sure to keep you entertained, from the tough journey up to the views from the summit. If you can handle a moderate-level hike with a decent elevation gain, you’ll be rewarded with views you can’t get anywhere else. Grab your good hiking boots and plenty of water, and let’s go!
Welcome to the beauty that is Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, and the 1.3-mile summit trail that takes you to the top of it.
The total trail length is 1.3 miles of out-and-back pathway, but the elevation will take you up 419 feet during the short route. It does get pretty steep in some areas, but if you can push yourself to complete it safely, it's worth every step.
Not that you aren't climbing a rock formation on the trail, but if you'd also like smaller rock formations added on like a treat, you'll love it here. There are extra little rock formations to make your adventure a bit more fun.
Once you reach the summit of Enchanted Rock, you get to look out over miles of Texas Hill Country at some of the best views around. Just look at how far you can see from up here!
The trail does get steep in a few areas, so make sure you're ready with a good pair of hiking boots and sure footing. If you choose to hike during warmer weather here, you should also be sure to bring plenty of extra water to keep yourself safe from heat exhaustion.
Through the state park's reservation system, you can purchase 'Save the Day' passes before your visit. There are quite a few people who visit this trail on the weekends or during holidays, so schedule your visit accordingly.
If you’d like to check out the Enchanted Rock Summit Trail map, weather forecast, or reviews, visit the official AllTrails page for this hike. To round out the adventure, if you have the extra stamina, we also recommend taking the 5.4-mile Enchanted Rock Loop Trail which can be found here. Seeing the rock from all sides before climbing is an extra treat!
