Texas Had The Best Economy In The Nation This Year

2018 has been a great year for Texas! According to CNBC’s annual survey, the Lone Star State nabbed the top spot for business growth in addition to several other accolades. Here’s what we accomplished:

Oil and gas are growing at their most rapid rate since 2014. West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil was $70 a barrel in June, giving our $1.6 trillion economy a massive boost.

Texas is the proud home of 39 companies in the Standard and Poor 500 index, including AT&T, Exxonmobil, and Texas Instruments.

We also have some of the country's largest private corporations, like H-E-B, Neiman Marcus, and Hunt Oil.

Our economic success isn't limited to oil. Related industries such as steel have nearly doubled in demand over the past several years.

Not only did Texas have the nation's best economy this year, but we also earned a top ten finish in four additional categories. We ranked first in infrastructure, third in access to capital, seventh in workforce, and ninth in technology + innovation.
