The heart and soul – and stomach – of Texas can be found not in the big cities, but in the tiniest of towns. One such example is Humphrey Pete’s, a charming restaurant tucked away in the small community of Early. Quite possibly the best small town steakhouse in Texas, Humphrey Pete’s serves up good old-fashioned Southern comfort food in a rustic, cowboy-era ambiance.
Don't be late when you visit the tiny town of Early, Texas to eat at the legendary Humphrey Pete's Restaurant! This unassuming steakhouse is located about 170 miles southwest of the DFW metro, and it's undeniably worth a stop next time you're road tripping through West-Central Texas.
Both inside and out, the rustic ambiance is so quintessentially Texas. From the taxidermy on the walls to cowboy-themed décor to vintage oil and gas company signs, the whole vibe is a charming escape to yesteryear.
All steaks are served with hot rolls and your choice of two sides, which feature down-home favorites like coleslaw, fried okra, and loaded baked potatoes.
If you aren't in the mood for a traditional steak, the chicken-fried steak is also a crowd favorite. It comes in two different sizes and is smothered in country gravy for a stick-to-your-ribs meal you'll never forget.
Veering away from steak entirely, you'll also see burgers and sandwiches, chicken and seafood dishes, Tex-Mex and island fare, salads and appetizers, and daily specials.
No matter how full you are, be sure to save room for dessert. After all, how could you say no to rum butter apple pie, brownies a la mode, turtle cheesecake, or blackberry cobbler with ice cream?
Wash everything down with one of Humphrey Pete's signature drinks. Whether you prefer something fun like a margarita, or a good old-fashioned glass of beer or whiskey, there's a perfect sip for everyone.
Visit the restaurant’s website or Facebook page for more information, such as current hours and a full menu.
