Outside of work, you can likely find her curled up on with a hot cup of coffee, practicing yoga, baking, or exploring the beautiful Lone Star State (in particular, the vast and mystical West Texas desert).
Just when you think you’ve heard of everything there is to do in Texas, another unique opportunity comes your way. Today, that attraction is a tiger sanctuary here in the Lone Star State where you can come face-to-face with some of the most exotic creatures around. Home to all sorts of different big cats, Tiger Creek Animal Sanctuary in Tyler serves as a refuge and learning experience for all who visit.
Tiger Creek is a 173-acre sanctuary that has been rescuing abused, neglected, and displaced animals since 1995. There are currently over 40 animals being housed on the refuge.
The preserve is one of the most advanced facilities in the country for research on endangered animals. Plus, the environment is spacious and comfortable with plenty of room for the cats to roam freely.
By keeping the animals here, researchers' ultimate goal is twofold: to not only keep them out of harm's way but also learn how to ensure the preservation of their relatives still living in the wild.
Although the tigers are the stars of the show, Tiger Creek wouldn't be nearly as successful as it is without the public's support. Over 200,000 tours have been given since the sanctuary opened, and the funds generated allow for continued research and growth of the organization.
Interactive and educational activities are held throughout the year to get kids involved and interested in learning about what they can do to help the animals. Getting their face painted like their favorite furry friend and meeting some real-live big cats is bound to be an experience they'll never forget.
So if you want to come face-to-face with a variety of majestic exotic creatures, tours are held daily - self-guided on Monday & Tuesday and guided Wednesday-Sunday. Click here for more information and pricing details.
Tiger Creek is located at 17552 FM 14, Tyler, TX 75706.
Have you ever visited this or any other animal sanctuary in Texas? Are there any other unique opportunities to interact with animals in our state? What about some goat yoga?
