I love visiting historic places in Texas. Our state has such a rich and fascinating history, and proof of that fact can be found from Brownsville all the way up to the Panhandle and from the deserts of the West to the swamps of the East. One of my favorite places to visit when I’m craving a dose of Texas history is George Ranch Historical Park in Texas. This unique living history farm showcases four distinct time periods in the Lone Star State’s past, with blacksmithing demonstrations, actors in period clothing, historic home tours, and so much more.
Opened in 1988, the George Ranch Historical Park in Richmond consists of four historic homesites from the 19th and 20th centuries. Although the park is mostly visited by schoolchildren, it is open to the public for tours on select dates.
Although the park is just 30 minutes from downtown Houston, it feels like a whole different world. It's located on a 20,000-acre working ranch and truly takes you back in time.
Both were absolute marvels of engineering for their times, and visitors can't help but find themselves admiring every intricate detail of the craftsmanship.
Also on the property is the 1830s Jones Stock Farm, which is one of the earliest settlements of Southeast Spanish Texas.
Watch cowboys sort and rope the cows for a show that rivals any rodeo.
Blacksmithing demonstrations, hands-on activities, and lots more family fun is waiting for you at George Ranch Historical Park. All you have to do is come on down and check it out!
Have you ever visited George Ranch Historical Park? If so, we’d love to hear all about your experience in the comments. And if you need a place to stay in the area, Hotels.com has lots of great options.
