Hiking underneath the brutal Texas sun is one of the fastest ways to work up an appetite, and one of Austin’s most popular trails just so happens to be located right near a mouthwatering taco joint. Tacodeli, a local institution since 1999, is mere steps away from the iconic Barton Creek Greenbelt, so you can refuel after getting in some exercise.
Austin's Tacodeli has grown into a household name, with nearly a dozen locations across Texas (and salsa stocked in grocery stores worldwide!), but its humble roots can be traced back to Spyglass Road.
As it's primarily a counter-serve joint, there aren't many tables to choose from, but the quaintness only serves to ensure everyone who walks through the doors feels like family.

You'll find a much more spacious seating area outside - and for good reason.
The restaurant is just steps away from the expansive trail network of the Barton Creek Greenbelt, so guests can revel in unparalleled views of the lush surroundings while chowing down on tacos.
Beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and veggie tacos are available, so everyone has plenty of choices regardless of dietary needs or preferences. You'll see everything from dry-rubbed beef tenderloin and grilled corn to pork belly with a honey tomatillo-serrano salsa to roasted sweet potato and caramelized onions, creating quite the dilemma for your taste buds.
Lunch and dinner plates are also available from 4 p.m. until close each day.
A recent addition to the menu, these hearty and flavorful meals range from chicken in mole sauce to scallops over pureed cauliflower. We'll take one of everything, please!
If you only remember one thing during your Tacodeli visit, let it be to not skimp on the salsa.
There are four different levels of heat, so you get to decide if you'll play it safe or take a risk. Choose your own adventure, and don't forget about the daily specials! You never know exactly what will be offered, but you'll be in for a scrumptious surprise no matter what.
Hours are 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday. Breakfast is served from 7 until 11 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekends, while lunch starts at 11 a.m. and dinner begins at 3 p.m. Visit the Tacodeli website or Facebook page to learn more.
