Here in Texas, there’s no shortage of opportunities to get your chicken-fried steak fix. If you’re craving one that’s truly life-changing, we suggest heading to T-Bone Tom’s in Kemah. The oldest restaurant in town, this unassuming roadside stop serves up a mean chicken-fried steak. It’s everything the dish should be: crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside. The homemade gravy is the icing on the cake!

A local favorite since 1974, T-Bone Tom's is the oldest restaurant in Kemah. The humble joint sits along Highway 146, just feet away from the water.
The no-frills ambiance is cozy as can be, complete with checkered tablecloths and Texas-themed décor. Upon first stepping inside, you'd never believe this homey spot was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives!
Why not start your meal on a high note with an order of Armadillo Eggs? A house favorite, these tasty morsels feature jalapenos that are stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and sausage, and deep-fried.
Hand-battered and never frozen, the crispy exterior gives way to the most tender beef you've ever had, and the homemade cream gravy pulls it all together.
You can swap the cream gravy for brown if you so desire, and each massive portion of chicken-fried steak comes with two sides, which include everything from mac and cheese to grilled tomatoes.
If you're really hungry, the World Famous BBQ sandwich is another popular menu item. It features sliced brisket, turkey, and sausage between on a perfectly toasted bun, with a pork rib and seared jalapeno on top. Is your mouth watering yet?
T-Bone Tom's was a meat market before it was ever a restaurant, and to this day, you can still stock up on all your favorite cuts. Enjoy a delicious meal and check some boxes on your grocery list under one roof!
