Wildflowers aren’t just for spring! Here in the Lone Star State, we’re blessed with a bevy of breathtaking blooms year-round, and one of the best places to see summer wildflowers in Texas is the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. This sprawling botanical garden is a floral oasis no matter the season, with a myriad of vibrant blossoms spanning virtually every color of the rainbow.
Named after the wife of former President Lyndon B. Johnson, whose nickname was "Lady Bird," the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin is a lush and lovely botanical garden worth visiting any time of year.
Situated on nearly 300 sprawling acres, the center is divided into several different gardens interconnected by a series of nature trails. The trails are all lined with breathtaking seasonal blooms, and you could easily spend an entire day seeing all of the sights.
Wildflowers are typically associated with springtime, but each season offers its own unique varieties. The Mexican hat, for example, is a summertime flower you may see during your visit.
My personal favorite summer wildflower is the Firewheel. Between its apt name and intense red and yellow hues, I can't imagine a more befitting flower for the season. It kind of reminds me of the sun!
So whether you opt to spend a whole day exploring all of the gardens in the center or just embark on a trail or two, nothing beats a summer day at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
Have you ever seen summer wildflowers in Texas at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center? If so, we’d love to hear all about your experience in the comments. And be sure to check out our road trip packing list if you need help deciding what to bring on your trip to see the flowers!
