Everything is bigger in Texas – including the places where we make a splash in the summertime. Balmorhea State Park is home to one of the world’s largest spring-fed swimming pools, and it’s the perfect spot to cool off when temperatures start pushing triple digits.
With one of the world's largest spring-fed swimming pools, Balmorhea State Park is a hidden gem tucked away in the West Texas desert.
You can even learn how to scuba or skin dive in the pool, as well as camp, geocache, study nature, birdwatch, and explore desert wetlands that endangered fish and other wildlife call home.
There are 34 campsites with varying amenities, as well as a historic motel also built by the CCC.
Please note: there is no lifeguard on duty, and children younger than 15 must be supervised at all times by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible adult over the age of 17.
Admission is $7 for adults, and children 12 and under get in free. Only 900 visitors are allowed to enter the park each day, so you'll definitely want to purchase tickets online in advance to guarantee entry.
Park hours are 8 a.m. until 7:30 or sunset (whichever comes first) daily.
Please note: at the time of publication, overnight lodging at Balmorhea State Park is currently unavailable due to ongoing renovations. Visit the park’s website or Facebook page to learn more.
