A good burger doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel by using tons of gourmet ingredients—it simply has to have a solid foundation. Gonzales Burgers in Donna makes its burgers with meat ground in-house…and the patties are bigger than your hand! This no-frills joint keeps things simple, but if anyone can appreciate that, it’s we Texans.

Tucked away in the small city of Donna, Texas lies Gonzales Burgers, an unmarked, blink-and-you-might-miss-it, restaurant. Opened 70 years ago by a WWII veteran, this family-owned establishment is the definition of a hidden gem.
Upon stepping inside, there's no denying what state you're in. Deer heads cover the walls, and simple card tables make for a laid-back atmosphere that feels just like home.
The kitchen staff are always hard at work, slinging patties and frying up fresh-cut potatoes from open 'till close. Small-town restaurants pour love and passion into their cooking, and the difference in taste is undeniable.
A quick glance at the menu reveals that quality, not quantity, is what creates loyal customers. Gourmet isn't the name of the game at Gonzales Burgers—just the basics done right every single time.
Further demonstrating the importance of quality, all the meat is ground in-house. The restaurant owners raise cattle, so the beef on your plate is as fresh as it gets.
Look at the size of those patties! They're bigger than the bun, and cooked to such perfection that only the basic fixins like cheese, pickles, onions, lettuce, and tomato are necessary.
Sides include fries, onion rings, and potato chips. You can also get a fry and onion ring combo, which we highly recommend for the full Gonzales Burgers experience.
Don't forget to pair your meal with a refreshing soda. Old-fashioned Mountain Dew that uses real cane sugar is hard to come by these days, but it's the only kind you'll ever see here.
