This little-known, 12.5-mile (round-trip) drive takes you into the Chisos Basin and boasts scenery that isn't found anywhere else in the park.

Basin Drive also offers excellent hiking opportunities, as it intersects with popular trails such as the Lost Mine Trail. Keep in mind, however, that a hike will add an extra several hours to your trip, so plan accordingly.

Naturally, the list of the best scenic drives in Texas doesn’t end with two drives in the same park; there are hundreds more! Some of our favorites include:  

  • Rim Road – This road shows off the city of El Paso in the coolest way like you’ve never seen it before. It’s perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to wander too far from town.  
  • Highway 80 – This delightful drive is found just outside the town of Sierra Blanca and makes for an awesome mountain adventure.  
  • Guadalupe Mountains National Park – Let's be real here, Texas’s National Parks are wonderful, and driving through them is a pastime everyone ought to have experienced at least once or twice.
