The Santa Elena Canyon Trail winds itself along until meeting up with the Terlingua Creek at the base of 1,500-foot vertical limestone cliffs. The Santa Elena Canyon Trail is a popular trail to hike to better explore this beautiful area, and for good reason. It’s short and easy to complete.
You’ll have to cross the Rio Grand River to follow the trail, and it may be muddy.

Take your shoes off so you don’t lose them and wade through. There’s a spot at the end of the trail that’s perfect for rinsing off, so you won’t be muddy for long.
The entire trail is 1.5 miles, out and back.
