Restaurants that take you back in time are a real treat, and The Sandwich Shoppe at Medic One Pharmacy in Alvin is one such place. With its black-and-white checkered floors, red counter stools, and homemade, old-fashioned sodas, this charming eatery is a portal straight to the 1950s. Oh, and their gourmet sandwiches piled high with all the fixings are pretty incredible, too.
Located inside Medic One Pharmacy, The Sandwich Shoppe is one of those places you'd never find if you weren't looking for it.
In addition to over three dozen flavors of handcrafted soda—ranging from classic cola to wedding cake and everything in-between—the shop also specializes in mouthwatering homemade sandwiches.

Each sandwich has a unique name that means something special to the owners—make sure you ask for a good story!
This is the "802 Park Avenue," which is more or less a classic Reuben with pastrami, baby Swiss, thousand island dressing, and sauerkraut on marble rye.
A quarter-pound of Genoa salami, pepperoni, bacon, provolone cheese, tomato, arugula, and Italian dressing are all piled on buttered white bread. Try saying that ingredient list three times fast!
Always a solid choice, the "Po'Girl" features salami, American cheese, yellow mustard, mayo, tomato, onions, and green leaf lettuce, also on buttered white bread.
How do you like yours? Chicago style with fresh tomato, dill pickle spears, hot peppers, sweet onion, relish, and mustard? Or perhaps smothered in chili, cheese, and onions in true Coney Island fashion?
If you're in the mood for something a little lighter, the menu is brimming with soups and gourmet salads.
Eating healthy doesn't have to mean skimping on flavor.
Hours are 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Visit the restaurant’s website or Facebook page to learn more.
