If your holiday season itinerary looks the same year after year, why not spice things up a little this Christmas? Travel to the African savanna without ever leaving Texas and embark on a lighted safari at the San Antonio Zoo. With dazzling displays, festive treats, real snow, and so much more, Whataburger Zoo Lights is the wildest way to enjoy the most wonderful time of year. Even the Grinch would marvel at all the holiday magic!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the San Antonio Zoo! The annual Whataburger Zoo Lights runs through January 3, and the theme is "Starry Safari."
Glittering lights galore illuminate every inch of the grounds, the dazzling spectacle sure to enchant visitors of all ages. Iconic symbols of the holiday season, including this giant snowman, add even more Christmas magic to the scene.
In keeping with the theme, life-size animals from the African savanna stand guard all over the zoo. You'll see lions, elephants, and even a 15-foot-tall giraffe!
Notice how the lights change color as you explore different areas of the zoo. The colors of Africa fill the trees in Big Cat Valley, while everything is pretty in pink as you stroll through Fa La La Flamingo.
Additional activities include a high-energy light show set to Latin music, a Holiday Express train, plush animal collection, and so much more. The zoo even has its very own North Pole!
Festive treats abound, and making them yourself is all the more fun! Decorate cookies at Santa's Workshop and roast marshmallows over a roaring fire while you sip hot cocoa.
If seeing the animals in light display form isn't quite enough, you'll be delighted to know camel rides are being offered. The whole family will enjoy traipsing around on one of these gentle giants.
There's no extra fee to attend Whataburger Zoo Lights—entry is included with the cost of admission! Tickets are $21.99 for adults and $18.99 for children (not including add-ons such as photos with Santa, camel rides, and s'mores.)
Hours vary throughout the season, and some of the attractions close before the zoo itself. Visit the event website to learn more and/or purchase tickets. Click here for the San Antonio Zoo Facebook page.
