We sure love steakhouses here in Texas, and our favorites are the ones that have no frills and remind us of Sunday suppers at grandma’s. The Barn Door in San Antonio is one such place that everyone should try at least once.
The Barn Door has been prioritizing quality for the past 50 years. It's been serving up down-home cooking with a side of Southern hospitality for all those years, and that isn't expected to change anytime soon.
Upon entering, you'll be instantly transported back to the Old West. There are lassos, horseshoes, and other cowboy paraphernalia hanging on nearly every single wall.
If the objective is to make you feel like you're in a barn, that has definitely been accomplished. I wouldn't be surprised if a horse appeared and sauntered over to me!
Even the tables are aptly decorated. Does anyone else remember these tablecloths? Back in the day, no Southern household was complete without one of them covering the supper table.
Now, onto the food. The menu might as well be a book with the endless options - every kind of steak you can imagine is offered, from petite filets to ribeyes.
All of the steaks are cut from the finest beef, aged, and broiled over a charcoal and mesquite flame. You can get it blackened, rolled in black peppercorn, or topped with jalapeños. Each dinner comes with a salad, potatoes (mashed, baked, fried, or hash brown), and a roll. You can't go wrong with whatever choice you make.
Red meat not your thing? No worries! There are tons of other entrees to choose from, so everyone is bound to find something they enjoy. Try a juicy, tender chicken-fried steak, a burger, or maybe a crispy fried catfish filet covered in queso. Mmmm.
