If you’re up for a little road trip, I know of a rural restaurant in Texas that’s begging for your attention. Heart of Texas Grill in the charming small town San Augustine is a historic eatery that locals can’t get enough of – and for good reason. The ambiance is adorably rustic, and the all-American menu will have your taste buds begging for more.
Located in the heart of downtown San Augustine, Heart of Texas Grill is a beloved slice of Americana. Seemingly frozen in time, the restaurant - which is housed in a century-old building - is just as much a local gathering spot as it is a place to grab a bite to eat.
Upon stepping inside, you'll be immediately swept back to a bygone era. The rustic atmosphere is complete with nostalgic decor reminiscent of simpler times, and the friendly, upbeat staff make guests feel like family.
Now, for the most important part: the food. The menu is filled with American classics like juicy steaks, pork chops, and catfish, and everything is made fresh daily.
Deep-fried to golden perfection and smothered with rich country gravy, it doesn't get much better than this.
I love a good burger, and Heart of Texas knows exactly how to make one. All burgers are made with Choice Black Angus beef, and you can opt to build your own or go with one of the restaurant's signature creations.
From mushroom Swiss to mac and cheese to BBQ, there's a burger for everyone here.
Like many country restaurants, Heart of Texas also offers daily specials. Pictured here is meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, toast, a side salad, homemade banana pudding, and iced tea.
