How often does it snow in Texas?

Snow in Texas is a very rare occurrence. In fact, the average snowfall in Texas is 0.1 inches. But if you’re lucky, you can catch a snowfall in these parks located in the higher elevations of the state:

• Big Bend National Park
• Guadalupe Mountains National Park
• Franklin Mountains State Park

Of course, there are a few cities where you can also catch some sprinkles in Texas and they include:

• Dallas
• Amarillo
• El Paso
• Lubbock

During the Winter, the western and northern regions of Texas see the most snow. And believe it or not, over the years, there have been snowstorms in Texas that have led to record snowfalls. One of which included a severe storm that hit the state in 1956, where Vega, Hereford, and Amarillo received over a foot of snow. The storm lasted for a week, and it caused a lot of damage as well as deaths in Texas. But thankfully, snowstorms are very few in the Lone Star state.

Winter in Texas is unlike the winters experienced in other states. Although Texas doesn’t get a lot of snow, there are still tons of winter activities that are fun for the entire family. They include:

• Viewing the ice sculptures on Galveston Island
• Ice skating at the Dallas Galleria
• Bumper cars on ice
