As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
If you’re in search of unique hotels in Texas, look no further than Flophouze. Located in the charming small town of Round Top, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, this quirky hotel is made entirely out of recycled shipping containers. Each room is its own little house, and there are tons of modern amenities for guests to enjoy. You’ve never seen anything like it!
Perhaps the quirkiest hotel in Texas, Flophouze is made entirely out of recycled materials.
There are six "houzes" in total, accommodating between two and six guests. Amenities vary, but generally include a full bathroom, kitchenette with basic appliances, and at least one queen-size bed.
You'll also enjoy a spacious living area outfitted with vintage décor - much of which is sourced from the twice annual Round Top Antiques Fair. The open concept layout gives you plenty of room to move around, while translucent sliding doors offer unparalleled views of the vast surroundings.
Cozy up at the breakfast nook and delight in complimentary tea, coffee, sparkling water, and Mexican Coca-Cola. There's also a microwave and mini fridge, so you can make basic meals or head into town for a more formal dining experience.
Your patio has a perfect view of the horizon, so you can watch the sun go out in a blaze of glory every evening. We highly recommend bringing some marshmallows and roasting sticks so you can make homemade s'mores!
There are three other, non shipping container accommodations, as well, plus an on-site special events venue and antique store. Visit the Flophouze website or Facebook page for more information, such as nightly rates.
