Texas is full of charming t, but none have a history quite this unique. Hye Market was a post office long before ever serving food, and remnants of its past are all over the building.
Established in 1886, this historic building has been a town icon for ages. It became a restaurant in 2011 after nearly being shut down, but the preserved post office inside makes its past undeniable.
Before sitting down to eat, visitors can peruse a fascinating collection of artifacts left over from the office's century of business. Original file cabinets, black & white photographs, and old stamps are just a few remaining treasures.
President Lyndon Johnson used the building to appoint Lawrence F O'Brien as U.S. Postmaster General in 1965. The former President also claimed to have mailed his very first letter here at just four years old!
Come for the history, stay for the food. As is common in small-town Texas, Hye Market proudly serves local produce, meat, and dairy to provide guests with the freshest flavors possible.
Sandwiches are by far the market's most popular menu item. Pulled pork, grilled cheese, a classic Reuben, and just about else imaginable is dished out of Chef Church's kitchen.
