Fall is right around the corner, and it isn’t complete without apple picking. Spice up your autumn with a visit to The Orchard, a charming little family-owned business hiding deep in small-town Texas.
Idalou is a small West Texas town with less than 2500 residents, but it's hiding a big secret: one of our state's most expansive apple orchards. This quaint little place will be your new favorite fall destination.
Ten different apple varieties grow on these luscious trees, ripening between August and October. Winesap, Braeburn, Fuji, and Granny Smith will be ready for picking next month.
Bring the whole family out for a full day of autumn fun. Pick the biggest, most crisp apples you can find, meet the owners, try some local honey, and drink a warm glass of apple cider by the waterfall.
A variety of bakery items are made fresh daily using apples from the orchard. Cookies, pies, and the iconic German Apple Cake are just a few of the scrumptious desserts available.
Don't leave without snagging some delicious homemade apple butter. It comes in several different flavors and instantly adds sophistication to an ordinary peanut butter sandwich. There's even a festival dedicated solely to this scrumptious spread on September 22 and 23!
You can also find products from The Orchard at Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market every Saturday through October 13. It runs from 9 a.m. until sellout each week!
