Did you know the “Pumpkin Capital of the USA” was hiding right here in Texas? The tiny town of Floydada produces nearly 2,000 pounds of pumpkins annually, and you can pick your own from Assiter Punkin Ranch & Pumpkin Patch and celebrate the season at the Punkin’ Days Festival.
Floydada may only be home to around 3,000 people, but the rural Panhandle community celebrates fall in a huge way.
Known as the "Pumpkin Capital of the USA," Floydada produces a whopping 1,800 acres of pumpkins each year. The town is also home to the annual Punkin' Days Festival, held on the second weekend of October.
Punkin' Days is a blast for all ages, attracting thousands of visitors every year. Guests can enjoy over 100 vendor booths, pumpkin decorating, games and raffles, a pie eating contest, and so many more festivities.
You'll also see chili and BBQ cook-offs, an auction for the biggest pumpkins you've ever seen, and an overall festive feeling with homes and businesses all dressed up for the season. Don't miss all the fun photo-ops!
Assiter Punkin Ranch & Pumpkin Patch is a working pumpkin farm open from mid-September through Halloween, and the sheer volume of pumpkins they turn over each year is incredible.
Pumpkin Pyle is another local farm that produces around 65 varieties of pumpkins. They mostly deal with wholesale orders, but we'd be remiss not to mention them anyway!
