I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
There’s no doubt that Galveston is a major tourist destination during the summer months. The higher the temperatures, the more tourists seem to flock to this Gulf Coast town. While fun, it gets crowded with beaches, bars, and restaurants packed. However, crowds aren’t desirable for everyone. Luckily, Galveston transforms into a wonderfully quiet and serene winter travel destination in Texas if you’re in the market for a getaway.
The city of Galveston is an island located along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. While the year-round population is just over 53,000 people, Galveston sees between 7 and 8 million visitors during the summer.
If you're like me and being around hoards of tourists isn't your thing, consider visiting Galveston during the off-season. And winter is the perfect time for a getaway here.
For example, you can grab a delicious seafood meal at one of the many restaurants in town like Miller's Seawall Grill. At Miller's, you can come for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and enjoy views of the Gulf while you peacefully dine!

You can also take a casual stroll through The Historic Strand District. Here you can admire the architecture, go shopping, or pop into a restaurant for a meal, all without the crowds!
Galveston is also home to a number of wonderful attractions including Moody Gardens. Not only are there gardens but an aquarium, a rainforest, events, dining options, a hotel, and more, making this a family-friendly destination within Galveston.

When staying in Galveston during the winter, there are often price breaks on lodging. Travel to a popular beach destination in the off-season certainly has its perks!

One hotel you may choose to stay at is Hotel Lucine (pictured here). Not only will you enjoy lovely accommodations but the hotel bar makes some wonderfully cozy drinks during the winter!
With temperatures around 60 degrees Fahrenheit and fewer crowds, Galveston is an ideal winter getaway. Are you looking for a winter travel destination in Texas? Would you consider Galveston? Let us know!
