There are few things we Texans love more than a juicy burger, and one Houston restaurant serves ’em up better than almost anywhere else. Lankford Grocery & Market has been around for almost a century, and you can definitely tell after just one bite. From mac ‘n cheese to Fritos and everything in-between, the toppings are just ridiculous.

Lankford got its start in 1938 as a fruit stand before evolving into a grocery store and delicatessen, hence the name that still stands today. The family-owned business eventually underwent yet another transition into a burger restaurant, which it has remained ever since.
Inside, the atmosphere is the definition of no-frills. You won't see any white tablecloths or fancy decor, but the friendly and attentive waitstaff make up for it a million times over.
You may want to consider looking over the menu ahead of time, as the options are virtually endless. 20 different burgers range from an old-fashioned classic with all the usual suspects to more interesting themes like quesadilla, Frito pie, and buffalo. Picture here is the "Grim," loaded up with mac & cheese, jalapeno, bacon, and a fried, sunny-side up egg!
Isn't that cheese pull absolutely picture-perfect? Fresh mozzarella mingles with grilled peppers & onions, spicy mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes for a taste sensation unlike anything you've experienced. Add a second (or third!) patty for a mouthful sure to rival even the most voracious appetites.
If you're not in the mood for a burger, plenty of other entrees pack just as much Southern comfort and deliciousness. Chili dogs, chicken-fried steak, a variety of sandwiches, and salad ensure nobody leaves with an empty stomach.
Don't forget about sides! French fries: regular, curly, and sweet potato, plus tater tots, onion rings, and a few other goodies round out the meal perfectly. And no matter how full you are, a bowl of warm blackberry cobbler for dessert is a must.
How's this for a mission statement? The restaurant has lived by it ever since the first burger was served, and the sentiment will likely always hold true.
