Outside of work, you can likely find her curled up on with a hot cup of coffee, practicing yoga, baking, or exploring the beautiful Lone Star State (in particular, the vast and mystical West Texas desert).
One of the largest state parks in Texas, Falcon State Park, is also one of the most peaceful and secluded. This south Texas oasis is nestled right along the Rio Grande and features an expansive lake that’s an idyllic destination for fishing and other water activities. This is one of my favorite state parks in Texas, and I encourage you to plan a trip down to Falcon Heights to explore it soon.
Tucked away along the majestic Rio Grande in extreme south Texas, Falcon State Park is one of the largest state parks in all of Texas. It spans over 80,000 acres and is popular among anglers and those who are simply looking for a peaceful escape into nature.
The park's main attraction is the 84,000-acre Falcon International Reservoir. Formed by the construction of the Falcon Dam in the 1950s, this manmade oasis is managed jointly by the United States and Mexico.
Visitors can boat, swim, waterski, and fish on the lake. It is stocked with species such as largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish, so cast your line and see what bites!
If you don't enjoy fishing, the park offers plenty of other activities. Observe wildlife from the viewing platform, stroll through the butterfly garden, and embark on nearly three miles of scenic hiking trails.
Several different lodging options let you extend your stay overnight. Opt for a pull-through campsite (half offer water and electricity, while the other half have full hookups), or choose a screened shelter or cabin.
No matter how you choose to experience Falcon State Park, expect to leave feeling brand new. This secluded oasis is one of Texas' best-kept secrets, and as such, it's hardly ever packed with crowds.
That's exactly how I like my nature outings to be - how about you?
