Katie Lawrence is a Southeast Texas native who graduated 18th in her high school class with a GPA of 4.25. She attended college in the Houston area and began writing for OnlyInYourState in 2015.
Today, Katie writes, edits, and performs several other tasks for OnlyInYourState and has never been more passionate about a job before. Outside of work, you can likely find her curled up on with a hot cup of coffee, practicing yoga, baking, or exploring the beautiful Lone Star State (in particular, the vast and mystical West Texas desert).
Recently, we showed you one of the largest antique malls in Texas. What you’re about to see definitely pales in comparison where size is concerned, but more than makes up for it with inventory. From real human skulls to taxidermy and every twisted thing in between, this Houston-based oddity shop shows that horror can be both elegant and gruesome.
If Edgar Allan Poe and Oscar Wilde opened an oddities shop together, this is precisely what it would look like. This eclectic collection is your one-stop shop for all things terrifying and twisted.
Specializing in taxidermy, animals large and small have been transformed into hauntingly beautiful works of art. Intruders wouldn't dare go near this guy.
Creepy crawlers of the non-stuffed variety are also available. This king cobra skeleton would look terrifyingly regal on a fireplace mantel or front porch.
It doesn't get much creepier than dolls, and several different types reside here. Any child would've appreciated these in original condition, but they've deteriorated to look more like little demons than innocent toys.
The Angel of Death isn't exactly an old friend we're dying to see, but he sure knows how to command a room. You won't find a better Halloween decoration to scare little kids with.
Certain items are believed to be possessed and therefore remain locked so the evil spirits can't escape. Brave souls can claim a haunted treasure for themselves and test the validity of the claim.
Valentine's Day is coming up, and there's no profession of love quite like a wilting rose or dead animal. If your significant other is even remotely interested in all things macabre, look no further for the perfect gift.
Although difficult to believe, The Wilde Collection is not meant to disgust visitors. Its purpose is to showcase the romance and beauty of morbidity, a goal the shop accomplishes flawlessly.
