While hiking trails are a wonderful way to get out of the city and into nature, there’s something special about paddling along in a canoe or kayak and seeing the trees go by as you take your time at your own pace. You can often cover much more distance in a shorter time on the water than you can on foot, and take in even more beautiful sites than you might expect.
Nichol’s Landing Paddling Trail is the perfect place to go, and there are canoe and kayak rentals in the area.
You start at Old Spring Branch Road next to the Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds and end up almost 10 miles downstream at Rust Falls.
Limestone cliffs line the shores in some areas, providing a spectacular view. It looks like something you might have to go to a faraway country to see, yet it's smack dab in the middle of Texas.
Each season brings its own spectacular sights. Autumn is an especially wonderful time to come here as you'll pass by endless multicolored foliage that you won't want to take your eyes off of.
You might think you're in the middle of a fantasy movie when you float along this gorgeous river. Lord of the Rings fans might think they've wandered into a group of Ents.
Many people tube down the river, and its calm, placid waters are perfect for all ages to enjoy. Blow up some innertubes and bring the kids along for a fun family adventure.
