Good BBQ in North Texas can be hard to come by, but The Shed Market is so good, you don’t need anything else. This family-owned joint in Abilene serves up some of the best meats and sides you’ll ever chow down on. It’s no wonder they have a monopoly on BBQ in the area!
If you want more Texas restaurants, make sure to sign up for our weekly dining newsletter. Every Thursday, a new eatery to try in the Lone Star State will be delivered straight to your email. Yum!
North Texas isn't exactly the BBQ capital of the world, but you would easily think otherwise after visiting The Shed.
Family-owned and operated since, The Shed got its start in the tiny Texas town of Wingate. Hollis and Betty Dean transformed their catering business into a full-blown BBQ restaurant. Their grandson, Byron, and his wife, Stacie, kept the wheels in motion by running the catering business and eventually opening The Shed Market in 2018.
Both a meat market and a restaurant, The Shed offers a variety of Prime and Choice cuts of meat, so you can either chow down right away or stock up on your favorites to cook at home.
You'll see a little bit of everything on the menu, from succulent brisket, smoked sausage, and ribs (served daily) to specialty items such as prime rib (served on Thursdays only.)
Order your meat by the pound, or opt for a combo plate for some variety. One, two, and three meat plates as well as rib plates are available, each one served with your choice of two sides.
Speaking of sides, the selections at The Shed are so delicious, you could almost make a meal out of them alone. There's bacon ranch potato salad, green chili mac and cheese, pinto and green beans, jalapeno cilantro coleslaw, and jalapeno corn.
If you prefer your BBQ handheld-style, the brisket sandwiches always hit the spot. Get it chopped or sliced, or make it a double with the two-meat combo! There are also two specialty sandwiches with brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and either mac and cheese or slaw.
Can't decide? Get a sampler with a little bit of everything. It's perfect for sharing! Oh, and whatever you do, don't leave without trying some banana pudding or fruit cobbler for dessert.
Visit the restaurant’s website or Facebook page for more information, such as current hours and a full menu.
