As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Navasota is home to around 8,000 people – and one of the best luxury hotels in Texas. The P.A. Smith Hotel offers a perfect blend of modern amenities and old-world opulence, and it boasts a rich and fascinating history that promises to make your stay unforgettable.
The P.A. Smith Hotel - also known as the "Crown Jewel of Navasota" was built in 1876, funded by a woman named Louisa Loftin. Named after her husband, Phillip A. Smith, the hotel provided lodging for railroad workers in its early years, as Navasota was a railroad boomtown during the locomotive era.
After changing hands several times following Louisa's passing in 1890 and serving as everything from A&M student housing to a pool hall, the P.A. Smith is once again the centerpiece of downtown Navasota. While it has been modernized, the hotel still retains much of its original style and historic charm.
Immediately upon stepping inside, you will instantly be taken by the sheer opulence of the decor. From crystal chandeliers hanging overhead to blue velvet sofas and armchairs, this is luxury at its very finest.
Several different lodging options are available to suit a variety of budgets. From standard rooms to a penthouse suite, there's an accommodation for everyone. I can tell you right now that I would never want to leave this room!
In-room amenities vary, but in general, you can expect a mixture of modern conveniences and old-world elegance. Guests enjoy high-speed internet, cable TV, bathrobes and slippers, wine and snacks, and more.
When you aren't relaxing in your room, spend some time roaming around and exploring the hotel. There are several sitting areas, so you can mingle with other guests or dive into a book while admiring the intricate details of the furnishings and architecture.
You don't even have to leave the hotel to enjoy your meals. Red Board Tavern is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offers "gourmet casual" fare such as burgers, steaks, and seafood.
The hotel even has its very own speakeasy! If you can find Hamer's (there are four different points of entry), you'll have a blast pretending like it's the Roaring '20s again.
