Warm weather hangs around in Texas longer than most states, which is both a blessing and curse. At Lake Mackenzie near Amarillo, the latter is definitely more true. This pristine reservoir is hiding in a place where few would expect to find it and looks like something out of a fairytale. Be warned: you’ll want to start planning a trip after taking just one look.

Located between the remote North Texas towns of Silverton and Tulia, Lake Mackenzie was created by our state legislature way back in 1965. Its initial function was supplying water to those aforementioned communities plus Floydada and Lockney.

It wasn't until 1976 that Lake Mackenzie opened for recreational purposes. With a motto of "Life just seems better at the lake," this pristine body of water promises to deliver an unforgettable time.
