There’s something so nostalgic about biting into a good old-fashioned hot dog (especially – at least, in my opinion – if it’s topped with ketchup, mustard, and plenty of sauerkraut). Some of the finest hot dogs in the nation can be found along the famed Route 66, a historic highway where the Americana vibe still reigns supreme. The best Route 66 hot dogs in Texas are hiding at Moe Dogs Grill in Amarillo, an old Shamrock station that’s now a no-frills hot dog joint that neither locals nor travelers can get enough of.

Housed in a refurbished Shamrock station along Route 66 in Amarillo, Moe Dogs Grill is a classic hot dog diner that harkens back to the heyday of the Mother Road. Although the restaurant wasn’t around when Route 66 was operational, the building is a living piece of history. If only these walls could talk…
With an old, rusty truck parked out front, retro signage, and vintage memorabilia, this tiny eatery is a real blast from the past.
Once inside, you'll see the cooks hard at work slinging all-beef hot dogs and German sausages that are bursting with delicious flavor. The menu is rather large, so you'll want to study it for a few minutes before placing your order.
You can't go wrong with the "Spicy Tex Mex Dog," which features grilled onions and jalapenos as well as sautéed sweet peppers. It's a party in your mouth!
Other hot dog toppings at Moe Dogs include avocado, green chiles, sauerkraut, and more. And, of course, you'll see all the classics like Chicago-style dogs and chili-cheese dogs.
Moe Dogs doesn't only serve hot dogs! The restaurant also offers sandwiches, tacos, Frito pie, appetizers like fried pickles and jalapeno poppers, and sides such as fries and onion rings.
Also on the menu is a juicy, 16-ounce ribeye steak topped with sautéed mushrooms and a bacon-wrapped jalapeno popper. It doesn't get much more Americana that that, folks.
Moe Dogs Grill is so old-fashioned, it doesn’t even have a website, so visit Grubhub to see a full menu and Google for current hours of operation.
