It’s no secret that our state is full of amazing small-town cafes, but harder to believe is that one of them earned the title of “Best Breakfast in America” by Southern Living. It’s Maxine’s Cafe in Bastrop, and we can’t think of any place more deserving of that incredible badge of honor.

This little gem has been serving up Bastrop's best breakfast since 1997, earning recognition by Texas Monthly, Day Tripper, and Texas Highways, among other noteworthy publications. It's just one of those places that's impossible not to love.
Upon walking in, you'll be greeted by smiling waitstaff who absolutely ooze Southern hospitality. Old-fashioned decor only adds to the distinctive Texas charm and makes you reminisce on childhood family suppers.
While the atmosphere itself is enough of a reason to visit, everyone keeps coming back for the delicious down-home cookin'. The breakfast menu alone might as well be a novel, with everything from a 12-inch wide pancake to Eggs Benedict and everything in-between.
Lunch and dinner are equally mouthwatering. Chicken-fried steaks are crispy perfection on the outside and tender juiciness on the inside, and burgers + sandwiches are piled high with all the fixin's.
Now, onto the part you've all been waiting for: dessert. It's no secret that Southern restaurants are known for their baked goods, and Maxine's is definitely no exception.
Over 15 different varieties of pie are made fresh daily, as well as several flavors of cake, cheesecake, and a laundry list of breakfast pastries. Your sweet tooth won't know what to try first!
