There is something to be said about a Texas restaurant that’s still just as popular today as it was when it first opened, and Champ Burger in Houston is one such place. This Second Ward icon first opened in 1963, and it’s still slinging patties like there’s no tomorrow. Houstonians line up down the block for these patties, so if you haven’t yet tried one, consider this your sign.
The saying "if you know, you know" couldn't possibly ring truer than it does at Champ Burger in Houston.
Located in the heart of the vibrant and historic Second Ward neighborhood, this humble, walk-up burger joint has been around since 1963 - and Houstonians still can't get enough. No matter what day or time you visit, there is almost always a line...but I promise you won't regret waiting.
All of the burgers at Champ's start with a 1/3-pound, fresh prime ground chuck patty grilled to perfection. You can keep it simple with just lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, and mustard, or get creative with additional toppings.
Whether you like cheese, bacon, jalapenos, chili, or even a ham slice on your burgers, Champ's can do it all.
You can also double up on patties if one simply isn't enough to satisfy your appetite. Truly famished patrons may also opt for the restaurant's signature "Texas-size Steak Sandwich."
Not feeling burgers? Don't worry - the menu boasts plenty of other options such as fish and chicken sandwiches, BLTs, hot dogs, and salads.
There are also non-meat options like a black bean burger, a falafel burger, and Impossible patties. Round out your meal with sides like French fries and onion rings, plus milkshakes and hot apple turnovers for dessert. Breakfast is also served at Champ's.
Either take your grub to-go or enjoy the lovely onsite patio. No matter how you dine at Champ's, the time-honored quality and nostalgic atmosphere ensure an unforgettable experience.
Visit the Champ Burger website or the Champ Burger Facebook page for more information, including current hours of operation and a full menu.
