If you enjoy exploring haunted places in Texas, plan on visiting Old Town Spring. This historic settlement near Houston dates to 1700s, when it was a winter camp for a local indigenous tribe before becoming a railroad hub in the early 20th century. Almost every building in town has a ghost story associated with it!
Old Town Spring is an early 1900s railroad town that eventually grew into the Houston suburb of Spring. No one lives in Old Town Spring anymore, making it a modern-day ghost town.
Today, the historic settlement is a quaint, walkable shopping destination with over 100 local businesses offering everything from artisan baked goods to handcrafted gifts and collectibles. As soon as the sun sets, however, the term "ghost town" takes on a much more literal meaning...
Almost every building in Old Town Spring has a ghost story associated with it, and you can hear them all - and maybe even have a paranormal encounter yourself - when you book with Houston Ghost Tour.
Since 2008, Houston Ghost Tour has been leading brave souls to the most infamous spots in town after dark. You'll see everything from an abandoned post office to a Prohibition-era saloon, listening to plenty of history and folklore along the way.
Hear about cursed dolls, cold case murders, mysterious disappearances, and more terrifying tales. You'll even get the opportunity to traipse through a cemetery...do you see the orb in the top right-hand corner of this photo?
The aforementioned Wunsche Brothers Café and Saloon dates to 1902, opened by local brothers Charlie and Dell Wunsche. It's the oldest building in Old Town Spring, restored to its former glory in 2018 by the Kosh family.
Upon stepping inside, you'll see many nods to the restaurant's Wild West history, from antique light fixtures to a traditional, saloon-style bar. Drinks aren't the only spirits in the café, either - the founding brothers are said to haunt the place. Both employees and customers have experienced unexplained phenomena!
There are two separate tours available - one is family-friendly, while another is R-rated. Please visit the Houston Ghost Tour website for hours and ticket prices.
Visit the Old Town Spring website for more information about the shops.
