Considering our state has a Harry Potter-themed coffee shop it’s safe to say die-hard fans of the iconic series abound here in Texas. One of the DFW area’s most popular escape rooms has a Harry Potter-themed challenge, aptly named “Wizard Hysteria.” Complete with horcruxes, symbols from the books, and a plethora of props for photos, it’s a spellbinding experience fit for the whole family.
Tucked away in an unassuming North Richland Hills shopping center is one of DFW's highest-rated escape rooms. Each guest enters their own personal Alcatraz, from which only the sharpest, most clever minds can find a way out of.
Head up to the reception desk to get "booked" in before taking a seat in the not-at-all ominous waiting room. Prepare to be locked up until further notice, heavily insulated walls silencing any cries for help.
Get into character with traditional wizard robes and hats available for participants. The possibilities are endless, so dress up like your favorite HP character or put together a totally unique look. Perhaps even recite a few good luck spells before entering the game...you'll most definitely need it.
A truly magical atmosphere sets the mood, mentally transporting participants into the world of witchcraft and wizardry. Detail-oriented decor such as floating candles, wands, and symbols from the movies allows you to become fully immersed in the challenge at hand.
Trapped inside a foreboding castle, you'll race to locate six cursed objects hidden by an evil wizard. Your headmaster has hidden clues to aid in the search, as time is of the essence to avoid an irreversible hex befalling everyone in the room.
Completing the room typically takes between one and 1.5 hours, but finish faster and you just might earn a spot on the leaderboard. Talented actors will be there every step of the way to provide an even more realistic experience without ever breaking character.
Whether or not your team emerges victorious, an assortment of themed costumes and props help commemorate the unforgettable experience. Get all decked out in Gryffindor attire and pose for a photo you'll cherish forever.
