8 Halloween Towns In Texas That Will Terrify And Delight You In The Best Way Possible

Texas is one of the best states in America to celebrate Halloween. We have a rich haunted history and a plethora of spooky events going on this month. Big cities and small towns alike go all out for the holiday to make it as frightfully fun as possible. We tried to include some smaller communities as well since it’s essentially a given that Houston, Austin, Dallas, and other large metros will have countless Halloween activities taking place. The following are eight towns that take All Hallows Eve very seriously.

Salado is home to the "Fright Trail" at Tablerock Amphitheater. In addition to the terrifying walk through the woods with surprises behind every tree, there are games, contests, spooky tales, classic horror movie showings (Frankenstein) and more. Check it out on October 21 and 28 from 6:30pm to 10pm. More information here.

Just 35 miles outside of Austin, there's a 20-acre forest harboring three separate haunted houses: Mansion of Terror, Lost Pines Zombie City, and Slaughter Circus. One of Texas' most popular theme parks goes all out for Halloween. Zombies and ghosts are scattered throughout the park, all the rides have been given a spooky makeover, and haunted houses abound. More information about dates and hours here.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center's "Spooktacular Halloween Extravaganza" takes place at the Children's Animal Center and includes goats doing tricks to earn treats, a Jack-O-Lantern contest, a chance to meet some creepy crawlers, face painting, piñatas, and more. The annual 5K Monster Mash Dash and 1M Fun Run take you right through historic downtown Ennis that's been decked out for the holiday. Pumpkins, hay bales, skeletons, and more spooky decorations line the streets to provide some festive scenery while you run. You'll end at the farmers market, where live music will be beckoning you to join in the fun. Remember to dress in costume - there just might be photographers waiting for you to cross the finish line! Many cities throughout the state do "Boo at the Zoo," and Fort Worth is one of them. There's no extra charge for the event beyond regular zoo admission, and you'll get access to yummy Halloween treats, carnival games, festive animal shows, and more! This little town just minutes south of Houston is home to one of the scariest haunted houses in Texas: Creepy Hollow. It boasts three separate haunted houses featuring mutants, zombies, and everything in between as well as a midway with a Freak Show, vendors, food, and music. You can't miss this one! The fun takes place Fridays & Saturdays through November 4th from 7pm-12am as well as two Sundays (October 22 & 29) from 7pm to 10pm. More information here.
