Here in Texas, we’re all about food quality over appearance when it comes to restaurants. Z’s Fillin Station is an unsuspecting gas station restaurant hiding in the tiny town of Woodville, and it just might be the most charming place in our state.
Next time you're driving through Woodville, keep an eye out for this unassuming building. A restored gas station, Z's is one of those places that shouldn't be judged by its exterior.
Upon walking in, you'll notice vintage license plates lining the walls. That combined with friendly staff waiting eagerly to take your order creates an old-fashioned charm so distinctly Texan.
Grab a seat wherever you'd like, marveling at all the quirky decor. Retro Coca-Cola memorabilia, animal heads, and plenty more unexpected juxtapositions leave your eyes struggling to take everything in.
More than a dozen burger varieties ensure everyone leaves the table satisfied. From Mushroom Swiss to Hawaiian, the flavor profiles are extremely diverse. Feeding the whole family? Consider "Z's Mega Burger," which has two pounds of ground beef and one pound of chopped BBQ plus cheese and bacon. This behemoth weighs 32 ounces and serves four people.
Philly Cheesesteaks are one of the most popular menu items. Other crowd favorites include chicken-fried steak, Reuben sandwiches, BBQ, seafood platters, and quesadillas.
Lighter options are also available for those who just need enough fuel to get through the drive home. This is a delicious blackened shrimp salad with fresh veggies and garlic bread.
You'll find the restaurant at 307 N Magnolia St., Woodville, TX 75979. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
